Jewell and Ann

Married

Husband:   Jewell

Father:
Mother:

Wife:   Ann

Born: 1806
Died:
Father:
Mother:

Aged 64 at the time of the 1871 census. Her relationship to the head of household (John) is entered as "grandmother" however, given the aged difference this is almost certainly a mistake, and was meant to say mother instead. Her place of birth is entered as Kings Somborne.

There is an entry in the GRO indices for the death of an Ann Jewell in Jul/Aug/Sep 1874 in Stockbridge, Hampshire (the area that covers Kings Somborne), volume 2c page 48. Her age at death is entered as 57, but if this is a transcription error, and should in fact have read 67, then this would fit well with the 1871 census entry.

Male  Child 1:   John Jewell

Born: 1826
Died:
Spouse: Elizabeth Wingham
Children: Louisa A Jewell, Elizabeth Jewell, William Edward Jewell, Fanny Ellen Jewell, Sarah A. Jewell, Bessie Jewell, Jane Jewell, Charles John Jewell, James Jewell, Henry Jewell

Occupation: Carpenter
In the 1871 census his age is entered as 39 and his place of birth King's Somborne.

According to the 1881 census, he was born in Awebridge, Hampshire. His age was recorded as 54. Here his occupation is entered as carpenter.

At the time of the 1891 census, John is entered as being 59, and his occupation wheelwright. His place of birth is given as Kings Somborne, Hampshire. Although many of these details do seem inconsistent with the earlier entry, the presence of the rest of the family members seem to confirm this is the same John Jewell.

At the time of the 1901 census, John's age is entered as 70, and his place of birth again Kings Somborne, Hampshire. As before his occupation is entered as carpenter.
