Elizabeth Wingham Female

Born: 1841
Died:

Comments: Aged 40 at the time of the 1881 census, this would imply she was born between 4th April 1840 and 3rd April 1841. Recorded as having been born in Michelmersh, Hampshire.

Aged 50 at the time of the 1891 census, her name is entered as "Elizabeth M. Jewell", and her place of birth is again given as Michelmersh, Hampshire.

Aged 60 at the time of the 1901 census, her place of birth is again given as Michelmersh.

Her possible surname(s) have been taken from the GRO indicies for marriage records. Two entries appear in the indices tied to the same page - one Wingham and one Winghorn. However, it seems more likely Winghorn is a transcription error.

One possible entry for her birth in the GRO indices is that of a "Elizabeth Mary Wingham", registered Jan/Feb/Mar 1842 in Romsey (the area covering Michelmersh) - volume 7 page 166. The Mary here could link up with her middle initial "M" given in one of the census entries.

Elizabeth's Family

Spouse: John Jewell (Married 1859)
Children: Louisa A Jewell, Elizabeth Jewell, William Edward Jewell, Fanny Ellen Jewell, Sarah A. Jewell, Bessie Jewell, Jane Jewell, Charles John Jewell, James Jewell, Henry Jewell
At the time of the 1871 census, the family are living at 23 Awbridge Hill, Michelmersh, Hampshire.

At the time of the 1881 census, the family lived in Salisbury Lane Cottage, Romsey Extra, Hampshire, England. They seemed to be largely engaged in carpentry.

At the time of the 1891 census, the parents and two of the children are still living at what may actually be the same address - something like Stanbridge Cottage, 59, Salisbury Lane, Romsey Extra, Hampshire.

There may have been an initial error in the 1891 census entry, as the household actually appears on two pages. On the first page the address is actually number 58 rather than 59, however it appears the whole page has been crossed out, and the details entered again on a second page.

The most likely entry for the marriage in the GRO indicies is for Oct/Nov/Dec 1859 (Romsey, volume 2c, page 115). There are two Elizabeths listed here - one Wingham and one Winghorn.
