Occupation: Baker
Comments: Aged 50 at the time of the 1871 census. His occupation is entered as "Journeyman Baker", and his place of birth Hursley.
Aged 60 at the time of the 1881 census. Place of birth is recorded as Hursley.
There is an entry in the GRO indices for the death of a John Elcock in Jul/Aug/Sep 1882 in Romsey (volume 2c page 35). This is a possible match given that John does not seem to be present in the 1891 census, but does seem slightly less likely as the age at death appears to be 67. This may be a transcription error of course (were it actually 61, it would fit quite well).
Spouse: Sarah Hoskins (Married 1850)
Children: Kate Elcock, Harry Elcock, Alfred Elcock, William John Elcock, Angelina Elcock
There is a record in the IGI indices of a marriage between John Elcock and Sarah Hoskins on 20th Jan 1850 at All Saints, Southampton, Hampshire. This seems fairly likely to be referring to this particular couple. Interestingly, the fathers of the couple are recorded in this entry - one Jacob Elcock and one Henry Hoskins.
There is also an entry in the GRO indices for the marriage of a John Elcock, and on the same page appears a Sarah Hoskins - Southampton Jan/Feb/Mar 1850, volume 7, page 232.
At the time of the 1881 census the family are living on Industry Row, Romsey Infra, Hampshire.
