Had the day off work today. Breakfast at a new cafe near home with Chie in the morning, then a long relaxing pub lunch at the Flask in Highgate with Christian.

[Wednesday 26th May 2021]
Took the afternoon off to race down to Sussex to view a wood which was for sale, but dithered slightly when I got there, and ultimately found it had been sold already.

Reorganised the wine racks in the morning. In the afternoon took Erika down to Camden to get her glasses adjusted.

The girls had other plans for dinner this evening, so I went and had a pizza and some Burgundy on the heath, and was kept company by a squirrel.
[Wednesday 12th May 2021]
Bit of an unusual wine (for me) ths evening - a Vacqueryas, from the Rhone - a vineyard once owned by Steven Spurrier, he of "Judgement of Paris" fame.

Unusually late walk to the heath, taking advantage of the longer daylight hours I went after dinner for a change.

Met up with Adrian and family at Runnymede, so we could hand over his heirloom from Vera - the musical Widdicombe Fair jug.

Tom the wine merchant delivered a mixed case of red Burgundy today, so I could broaden my horizons beyond the Cote de Nuits.

[Sunday 2nd May 2021]
Went for a rash and ill advised day trip in the car all the way down to Rye, followed by Camber Sands. Over five hours of driving in total, in return for half an hour queuing in the rain for fish and chips in Rye, then probably even less time in the cold, wind and rain on Camber Sands.

[Saturday 1st May 2021]
Went into the centre of London in the morning / early afternoon to but birthday presents for Chie. Haven't been into the centre like that for ages, for obvious reasons. While in that neck of the woods I had a quick stroll around St. James's to see if any of my old favourite pubs might be open for outdoor service, but alas not. Later on in the afternoon I took Erika out for an ice cream.

[Friday 30th April 2021]
Filled out my postal ballot for the London mayoral elections today - the first time I've actually felt satisfied with voting in as long as I can remember. In the evening a walk to the heath, with a Negroni at aperitivo hour.

[Saturday 24th April 2021]
Took the train down to Hassocks, and went for a circular walk taking in Wolstonbury Hill and then across to the Jack and Jill windmills. Then lunch at the Jack and Jill pub before heading back to London.
[Wednesday 21st April 2021]
Erika made the other half of the brick wall today, and we hung it up in the doorway so she could run through it, just like the Platform 9 3/4 scene in Harry Potter.

[Tuesday 20th April 2021]
Erika had a rather neat idea to recreate the scene in Harry Potter where they run through the wall on Platform 9 3/4 in King's Cross. So she spent this afternoon / evening after school making a brick pattern on a long sheet of paper.

[Saturday 17th April 2021]
After dropping Erika off at her Japanese school this morning I walked back home, which was a more pleasant walk than I expected, considering the rather grim start in Brent Cross. Then in the afternoon I went and paid my respects to the Pineapple, which had recently reopened.

Drove back home from the Forest of Dean in the morning / early afternoon, and when we got home I went and checked how things had progressed in the garden while we'd been away.
