TheMarrs

James Marr Male

Born: 1836
Died: 1933

Occupation: Fisherman, then later in life harbour master of North Berwick harbour.

Comments: Known as James "Daddy" Marr - probably a nickname he acquired much later on in life, as a tribute to his longevity.

It appears James may well have spent his entire long life in North Berwick.

Recorded as being aged 5 (maybe an approximation or transcription error) at the time of the 1841 census, at which time he is living on North Street, North Berwick with his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Aged 43 at the time of the 1881 census. His birthplace is recorded as North Berwick. Here is occupation his recorded as fisherman.

Aged 53 at the time of the 1891 census, again his occupation is recorded as fisherman.

Aged 62 at the time of the 1901 census. By this time his occupation was recorded as harbour master.

He continued to be harbourmaster seemingly almost right up to his death, and was famously the oldest harbourmaster in the British Isles (a record which may well still stand today).
