William J. Hocking and Jessie De Viell

Married

There is an entry in the GRO indices for the marriage of a Jessie De Viell in Oct/Nov/Dec 1879 in Plymouth (volume 5b, page 518), however there doesn't appear to be a William Hocking on this page.

At the time of the 1891 census, the family were living at 17, Follett Buildings, St. Mary Major, Exeter.

At the time of the 1901 census, the family are living with Jessie's father at 3, Bullers' Cottages, Exwick, Devon.

Husband:   William J. Hocking

Born: 1859
Died:
Father: James Hockin / Mules
Mother: Anna Lemon

Occupation: Tailor
There is an entry in the GRO indices for Jan/Feb/Mar 1860 for the birth of a William Mules in Bideford (volume 5b page 563). There is also an entry later in the year. This is for Oct/Nov/Dec 1860, for the birth of a "William Henry Mules" again in Bideford (volume 5b page 492). However, the earlier of the two seems more likely, given that this would correlate with the age given in the 1881 census.

Aged 11 at the time of the 1871 census, "William J. Hocking" appears living with his parents, and his place of birth is recorded as "Devon, Bideford".

Aged 21 at the time of the 1881 census, and named "William Mules". His birthplace is recorded as Bideford, and his occupation is Tailor.

Aged 31 at the time of the 1891 census, and named "William J. Hockin". Here he is the head of the family, living with his wife and four young children. His occupation is again entered as tailor.

Aged 41 at the time of the 1901 census, "William J. Hocking" appears living with his family and father-in-law. His place of birth is again Bideford, and his occupation is entered as "Journeyman Tailor".
