Erika meets Grandad

Posted on 2012/10/13 17:39:11 (October 2012).

[Saturday 13th October 2012]
Dad had been quite busy with the final slog of his house moving marathon the past few weeks, so this was the first chance he'd had to come and meet baby Erika. I thought it would also be a good opportunity to give Chie and Yoko-san the afternoon off, so shortly after Dad arrived the girls went out for lunch, leaving me and Dad to look after the baby.

We took her out for a walk around the gardens, picked up a loaf of bread, and then cobbled together a rather basic but surprisingly nice lunch - a bowl of soup, some bread, cheese and chutneys, and accompanied with a glass of cider. This we ate while Erika slept on her Grandad's arm. It was rather lovely.

It was the first time Chie had really gone out properly and left me with Erika - so she's effectively been nose to the grindstone 24 hours a day for the last month. I thought it was really important she had some time to take a breather and just do something fun. It actually worked really well - Chie left behind a couple of bottles of milk, and Erika doesn't seem to mind too much being bottle fed now and again. I felt rather proud of being able to take complete charge of the baby for a few hours, although of course it was nice to have the moral support on hand!

Dad couldn't stay very long, so just before 3 Erika and I walked with him to the bus stop (the tube wasn't running today) and waved him off. It was a flying visit but having the opportunity to spend the time together with just the three of us was really lovely.
