Nine Pounds

Posted on 2007/02/14 18:51:21 (February 2007).

[Tuesday 13th February]
I spent most of today in a pretty glum mood. There were two main causes: firstly my new job is turning out to be very bland indeed. Secondly this general state of malaise was compounded by having been ripped off for crappy food twice in one day.

There was a "team lunch" on today which meant going round the corner to a little Singapore noodle restaurant. It's now the third time I've been there, every time I've had something different, and every time it has been really, really bland. Once a drink and a tip had been added in lunch ending up costing me nine pounds, for a bowl of tasteless watery noodles. I was not happy.

In the evening Chie and I made the mistake of going out for dinner at a nearby Italian restaurant, which I should have known better about. As soon as we got inside I could tell it was going to be crap, but I was too polite to back out. I paid nine pounds again for "linguine vegetariana" which was a bowl of crappy pasta with a sauce made from the vegetable offcuts of a load of other dishes. It was tasteless and had obviously had absolutely no effort put into it at all.

I think I've had just about enough of being ripped off for crappy food already.

I trust you put your views to the managements?

Perhaps when the fourth "team lunch" is due you can cause a revolt and suggest somewhere else?Revolution against the bland noodles!

There is nothing worse than paying for a crap meal at a restaurant - you know you can hardly return the item purchased (well, I suppose you could, but it wouldn't impress your fellow diners), and if something tastes duff there is no benchmark by which to measure it - you can hardly say "It doesn't work"/"It doesn't fit"/"It doesn't do what it says on the tin". Oh well, you now know a couple of places to avoid, John!
