Tochigi

Posted on 2006/06/11 14:54:25 (June 2006).

[Saturday 10th June]
Had a very nice day out being shown around some of the highlights of Tochigi prefecture by our friend Hide. The pictures probably tell it best!

Yes it was very nice - mostly because it was a complete break from Tokyo, which, as you may have noticed, has been getting me down a bit of late.

Yea - if you have the time it is certainly worth a visit. It is just about doable in a daytrip - about two hours by local train, or one hour by shinkansen. So we left home at 9AM, and were back in the centre of Tokyo again by 7PM. However, we did have the benefit of our friend Hide driving us around once we got to Tochigi. I think you can get to Nikko (where the shrine was) by train, but some of the other places didn't seem to have any stations nearby. There might be buses - maybe - but it seems a car is the best way to get about around there.

Certainly the car ride was helpful, even if services are great in Japan you end up wasting a lot of time waiting for buses and the like... Oh well we'll see next time I am there if we can sneak a trip there, otherwise QUERCUS will do fine ! :)
