Darts with Shingo-san

Posted on 2005/12/31 07:37:07 (December 2005).

[Friday 30th December]
Well today was the first day of my six days off, and I spent the daytime doing pretty much nothing. I didn't even get up until about midday, then lolled around the house for most of the afternoon. I finally headed out around 3:30 to go and get a hair cut. I was determined not to mess about, so just walked straight into the nearest place to my flat, and, as luck would have it, they had a free slot. It was the first time I'd been to get a hair cut in Japan without Chie there for backup. Consequently I didn't get exactly the cut I wanted - slightly shorter than I would have liked, but at least that ought to mean it'll take longer before it needs cutting again!

At five I met up with Shingo-san (a friend of Chie's) in Shibuya, and headed over to a nearby izakaya. Chie joined us a while later, and then the three of us had a wander around trying to find somewhere else to go for a drink and something to eat, and oddly settled on a sort of Mexican themed darts bar. I'd never played darts in Japan - they have these sorts of electronic boards with lots of little holes in, and I presume some kind of magnets must be involved too. Clearly the good old fashioned spiky variety of darts are considered too dangerous! Anyway, had a few rounds of darts and a few more beers, and also met a Scotsman and a guy from America, who I chatted with for a bit.

all you needed was an irishman and you would have had the beginning of a very good darts joke!

First off,I must apologise for the insane rant of roleplay that occasionlly takes hold of my head...too many years of running around and more often than not running into trees.Japan...is that the other side of Derby?Could i get a bus there?I now live in Long Eaton with Helen(Antonys sister). We've been together for nine years now and have a beautiful little daughter called Bethan. She's five and a half and a real handfull though I wouldn't change her for all the "time pauses" in the world. As for work I'm still at Gerhardts in Donington in the cutting edge world of die making(sarcasm at it's best).Speaking of Dave Shaw,I went out for a drink with him on Christmas eve. He's been ill with a bad back recently so hasn't been working, though he assures me he's on the mend.I don't really keep in contact with any of the old lot but bump into Kev now and again.I will sort my E-mail out as it's gone a bit crazy at the minute so we can have a proper chat.Hope you and Chie have a prosperous New year.Take care By the way,how are the family doing?

Ash, still in boring old CD most of the year but at the moment in the "sunny" Dordogne (slightly south of Long Eaton). I used to work at Kenting Drilling on Trent Lane, you know, not a stone's throw from Gerhardts.

John - there is STILL some mouldy old role playing stuff in my attic! I cannot move it as I think it will disintegrate. Please bring a shovel next time you come home.

Great to hear from you Mr Bradshaw!

Five and a half eh? Blimey... I had heard via Russ that you'd had a baby (obviously not you personally, that would require some serious advances in medical science, etc), but I didn't realise she was so grown up already! Mind you, having said that it was probably about five years ago that I heard you had a little girl so that probably makes sense...!

Feel free to send me something whenever you get your email sorted out then - I know the feeling as mine seems to be a bit messed up too at the moment. I think my mail server is suffering from a delayed version of the millenium bug, just after new year I received all of my December 2005 mail all over again, which was a bit odd.

As for Dave Shaw not working because of a bad back, I can't say I am that surprised, as I don't recall him ever having a job in all the time I knew him! Still, he contributed to society in other ways I suppose. Erm...
