The Incredible Journey

Posted on 2005/01/02 20:21:18 (January 2005).

[Sunday 2nd January]
Sadly all good things come to an end, and it was time for me and Chie to head back home to England. We aimed for an early start (about 9:30), as we had a long journey ahead of us. Again I drove to start off with, and for almost the first time since I passed my test I really felt like I was enjoying it - particularly the mountainous bits around Dolgellau. We got to Welshpool by about midday, where we had a very quick toilet break before pressing on. I even tackled a decent chunk of the motorway (M54/M6/M42/M40), and didn't concede and let Chie take over the driving until after Birmingham (at Warwick services on the M40). Was very pleased with myself. We had a 2 hour stop at Bicester Village (the outlet shopping centre place) where Chie did some shopping, whilst I wandered round Tesco, and finally got back home around 6ish. So probably about 6 hours driving in total. For dinner had a (ready made!) pizza and some salad, then spent the rest of the evening in front of the computer and/or the telly.

Did you know Harrison Ford landed his plane at Welshpool for his much publisized holiday on the Shropshire canals last summer?

I only live in Oswestry so you were but a stone's throw away! Even Harrison (as we call him now) popped in to my local supermarket for provisions. Not that I'm name-dropping or anything...

Yes, it's been stormy in this area for a good few days. I've taken my lad out for the odd walk when the sun's been shining, but we've always got back cold and wind-swept.

Happy New Year John!

No I had no idea about Harrison Ford - that is a bit bizarre isn't it? Not that I want to pooh-pah the canals of Shropshire in any way, but when the world is your oyster as I assume it is for Mr. Ford, then it seems an odd choice of holiday destination...

Oswestry eh? Yes I recall seeing that on a few signposts... Can't say I've ever been there though...

Anyway, Happy New Year to you too Nigel!
