Wedding in Singapore
[Sunday 24th October 2010]

It was a rather hot day in Singapore last Sunday, I came totally unprepared for 32 degrees Celsius and had to endure the heat in a season that technically is everything but hot for us Europeans.

I went to Singapore for work of course, but this time I was also invited to the wedding reception of the son of our distributor who was getting married.

It was the first time for me to come to a Chinese wedding, and what a wedding this one has been! Firs of all there were two venues, one on the Saturday night, for some "close friends" among which I was, that counted only 90 guests.

We were invited on the Singapore Flyer (a huge panoramic wheel, very fashionable around the world these days), there were some "pods" rented for us where a luxurious dinner was served while spinning around and admiring the marvellous view of Singapore' skyline.

The Sunday was all arranged from the morning, with a mandatory Bakuthe breakfast (boiled pork in a very spicy soup, truly marvellous), followed by a cruise along the bay and then a rest until 7.30 PM.

This is when the real reception started, 937 guests came at the wedding, I have never seen anything that big in my life for a wedding dinner. All perfectly organized, it was kind of incredible that all the tables were served almost at the unison, the bride and groom manages to take a picture with each table and 10 minutes after that the pictures were already printed and handed to us as a memento!

Compared to Italian weddings (where normally we have a wedding lunch) the dinner was rather short, "only" 4 hours, 10 courses ranging from Shark Fin soup to Beijing Duck and many other Chinese delicacies.

Lots of people got drunk of course, and it was amusing to see them going around the tables looking for more drinking buddies.

I was a bit away from the action so I could not see what was going on the main table, there was even a speaker (Mandarin, Cantonese and English) to introduce some videos and the newly wed couple (they changed dress three times), like an Hollywood red carpet event...

A great wedding all in all, it was nice to make that experience!

Pulled shirt
[Wednesday 20th October 2010]

A quick "excursus" on the situation here at Maison de Stuff.
By the looks of it, I am the only one posting, albeit quite rarely now, here at "La Maison". We had a previous crisis like this one in the past, I guess that all the organized Social Networks around the globe took away a lot of the appeal of using the message board first (feature now dead) and slowly also the blog posts have been slowed down to an halt.
I am no better, as I have also stopped writing, for several reasons.

Anyways, for you guys still interested in what Lox's been up to, the move to the new apartment is now over, will post some pictures after I come back from the next trip that I have to Asia. I like the new place, a choice with the heart, rather than the mind, as the house is quite far from Florence and I have to get used to the distances that I need to cover to get to places that were "technically" down the road before.

So, you would say, after a mandatory time spent unpacking and sorting out the new place, the famous "New Chapter" is about to start, the first few paragraphs written down in a trembling calligraphy as you usually get when writing on a fresh new book.

Well, the answer is YES and NO.

Yes, new things have started. No, some parts of the old life are still pulling my shirts and dragging me down (or back) as they need to be sorted.

These parts have a more precise name, previous landlord and deposit money. Instead of doing something "not nice", i.e. not pay the last two months of rent as the landlords have my deposit in their hands, I paid what was due in full. Now after they got the keys back the quarrel started on a couple of points on the walls that have shades of furniture that was there and stuff like this, so basically the argument is now about having to repaint some of these "issues" that arose from living in the place.

I won't go into the details as they are really boring, but I really really hope that the whole thing does not escalate to a full fledged fight over the deposit, because that would involve lawyers, nasty letters and waste of time that I'd love to avoid.

Hopefully by the time I am back the whole issue should be on the way to be solved, or completely settled, meaning that I can worry 100% only about new things to arrive.

Will be in Singapore, Japan and China soon, the first leg of the trip it's going to be a Chinese Wedding in Singapore, the son of our distributor is getting married and I am attending to the reception/ceremony. It's going to be grand, more than 1000 guests. Will surely comment after I have been there!

Another chapter of the Story
[Thursday 14th October 2010]

It's not that late, 10:15 PM doesn't count as late, not even when you are 15 years old.

But it feels VERY LATE.

I have been working all day to the coming move to the new house, yes I have not written a lot lately so I guess, if there is still someone reading that I ought to give a recap of what I have been up to:

1. Work
2. Work
3. Got the new house only last week as I have had two offers refused, and this was my third choice
4. Arranged moving places
5. Spent a lot of money (read "wasted") in taxes and estate agents
6. Went to see the concert of ALLISON CROWE, absolutely fantastic she's going to be famous soon I am sure
7. Packed and thrown away a lot of stuff, though I wished I did better at throwing things, it seems as there is always too much stuff lying around
8. Work

Anyways the new house is all set to go, I have the keys and tomorrow I will officially move there, there are going to be two people that will help me in moving the stuff around, which is good of course, although I have already started to bring some items to the new place.
The last three days were monopolized by this move, there is so much to do and so little time to do it... Or at least it feels like that.
I am also by myself, which is never an easy condition to manage a move, but that's how things are.

I am moving to the countryside, in a very nice house, with a fantastic view. It's going to be far from Florence, around 20 minutes by car, but all in all the good side is that I will be able to have a nice experience away from a city.
Technically I want to buy a place next, so it's going to be good to have a different experience so that I can evaluate a place outside Florence as well if I like it...

So back to packing for me, there is still SO MUCH to do and so little time, tomorrow at 9ish the real move will begin, and so will a new chapter in my life.

A better one? Only time will tell, but I am going to make sure that I give it a bloody good go, this year has been hard under many aspects and I'd love to start changing the tides.

History of this Blog
A collection of all the articles that I have wrote so far, divided by month/year.

I have had the bad idea of writing my e-mail address on the board before, so this time I'll try to prevent some spam to get to me by putting this little image.. Let's hope it does the trick!

A reminder to Myself

Left and right
Like day and night
That's what makes the world go round
In and out
Thin and stout
That's what makes the world go round

For every up there is a down
For every square there is a round
For every high there is a low
For every to there is a fro
To and fro
Stop and go
That's what makes the world go round

You must set your sights upon the heights
Don't be a mediocrity
Don't just wait and trust to fate
And say, that's how it's meant to be
It's up to you how far you go
If you don't try you'll never know
And so my lad as I've explained
Nothing ventured, nothing gained

You see my boy it's nature's way
Upon the weak the strong ones prey
The human life it's also true
The strong will try to conquer you
That is what you must expect
Unless you use your intellect
Brains and brawn, weak and strong
That's what makes the world go round
