Shopping and Stag Do
[7th January 2007]

Shopping wise the year is going to start in a very "expensive way". Today it was the first day for sales, and I went around Florence with Gianfranco and Silvio to check a couple of stores. To be honest I had already in mind what I wanted to buy, a new coat that I had seen in a shop that I simply love called "Murphy and Nye".

Although the name appears foreign to the Italian land, it is a brand made in the north of Italy, and they make clothes designed for regattas and generally boat-wear. It is done in a nice way, with good materials, and most importantly it's not too "old looking".

So in the end I got the coat, a nice afternoon around Florence and a bit of a chat with my buddies.
One of the main topics has been the stag do night that we would like to have in honour of Francesco who's getting married at the end of March.
The main problem is that he doesn't want to do it!!!

HOW SHIT IS THIS??!?!

The last night that you can spend with your friends (male friends) doing things that you probably won't tell any other person, maybe just on the piss, maybe in some old and done strip club... I wouldn't want to miss on it, the "last" secret between you and your mates, one of the nights to remember for the rest of your life.

When I get to it I think that I'll love to do like Rob did, a week away in another city in Europe, the last quality time with me and my friends only.

Anyway we haven't give up on the issue, we just need to find a way to coerce Francesco to come.
I think that he's scared of something, but I can't understand what it is...
Surely the fact that it's his first proper relationship makes things a little harder as I am sure that he has to fight the idea of loosing a person if you do "certain" things, or if you don't share every single breath with the partner. Maybe is that, maybe is something else...

Oh well, we'll see what we will come up with, it will be a big miss if we don't do anything in the end, but I guess we'll simply have to accept it...

Year Blooming
[3rd January 2007]

Nothing much to report in the early days of this year.
Marta has left Florence yesterday, it was a strange feeling as the eight days that she spent here really felt rather quick, and I was sorry to see her off at the station.

The situation there is not easy, mostly because I still think that coming to Florence might mean 99% that she will have to arrive here unemployed.
Finding a job as she wants it's quite hard, it took two years for me to find.

And she is quite busy with the current job, so she doesn't have a lot of time to employ on the research.

Let's see where we are heading, I told her that I am not ready to wait much longer to be together if that is our destiny.
I know it's a very selfish thing to say, but on the other side time is ticking for her and I don't want a long distance relationship for much longer...

Let's see.

Workwise all the companies have been closed, so nothing much that I could do in these days. I still have to see a friend of mine to help me sort out the TV and Wireless LAN problems that I have.
I also want to buy a nice chair for my desk at home, but I really don't know where to start from to look for it... Hard stuff..

So in the end it looks like the new year is slowly blooming, a bit like when we wake up in the morning of a lazy Saturday, stretching and yawning slowly, but staying in bed just because we can (at least the people that can do that!).

New Year Party
[31st December 2006 - 1st January 2007]

The party this year had to have a different note to it. No more pantagruelian dinners, but rather a quick set up, in order to manage to get out of the dinner place well before midnight to get to the centre of Florence for the ritual celebrations.

So we decided to go for yet another "Pugi Cena". I say yet another because we had a pre-Christmas edition of which I didn't give account on the blog (my mistake actually).

Anyways all things set it was clear that there was a huge quantity of food as usual, infact part of it was left to Antonio who arranged for the location (his place).
The location deserves a couple of words, as Antonio lives IN a school, as his parents are the guardians.
This is one of the most important high-schools in Prato, so you can imagine the happiness in going around the empty and dark hallways... It looked like a horror "B" movie where they kids have a party and the assassin kills them all.. TOP STUFF.

Anyways, no assassins where to be found, so we decided to kill ourselves digging into the pile of food that we mustered for the night.
I think that I have lost a good 4 years of liver just from eating.

Nasty note of the night was the very small consumption of alcohol, only two bottles of wine, not a lot...

Around eleven we moved to the centre of Florence to have a street party. We managed to arrive just in time, and we wondered around the centre for a while, witnessing to all sorts of scenes, ranging from people collapsed in puke pools, to other guys shooting firecrackers and fireworks that would get the ground shaking!

There were quite dangerous parts, especially in the main squares where people got into the habit of throwing champagne bottles on the ground. Of course this is both dangerous and stupid, but such is life...

We got home quite early compared to other New Year's Parties, but it was a good one a good way to close the year 2006.

Happy 2007 everyone!

A reminder to Myself

Left and right
Like day and night
That's what makes the world go round
In and out
Thin and stout
That's what makes the world go round

For every up there is a down
For every square there is a round
For every high there is a low
For every to there is a fro
To and fro
Stop and go
That's what makes the world go round

You must set your sights upon the heights
Don't be a mediocrity
Don't just wait and trust to fate
And say, that's how it's meant to be
It's up to you how far you go
If you don't try you'll never know
And so my lad as I've explained
Nothing ventured, nothing gained

You see my boy it's nature's way
Upon the weak the strong ones prey
The human life it's also true
The strong will try to conquer you
That is what you must expect
Unless you use your intellect
Brains and brawn, weak and strong
That's what makes the world go round
