Thomas Gothard and Ann

Married

There is an IGI entry for the marriage of a Thomas Gothard and a Hannah Renshaw in North Wingfield (not too far from Blackwell or Newton) on 27th Oct 1819. This of course assumes Ann as recorded elsewhere is an abbreviation for Hannah. A bit conjectural!

Husband:   Thomas Gothard

Died:
Father:
Mother:

His name is taken from the IGI birth record for his daughter Caroline.

Thomas must have died before 1871, as his wife Ann is entered as a widow.

Wife:   Ann

Born: 1787
Died:
Father:
Mother:

Occupation: Retired school dame
Aged 83 at the time of the 1871 census at which time she is living with her son-in-law and daughter. Her place of birth is entered as Scarcliffe (?!), Derbyshire.

Female  Child 1:   Caroline Gothard

Born: 1826
Died:
Spouse: William Dunn
Children: Sarah Ann Dunn, Elizabeth G Dunn, William Dunn, Caroline Dunn

Occupation: School dame
There is an entry in the IGI for the birth of a Caroline Gothard on 4th February 1827 in Blackwell By Alfreton, Derby. Her parents are entered as Thos Gothard and Ann. Blackwell and Newton are in fact very close together so this seems a fairly likely match.

Aged 44 at the time of the 1871 census, her place of birth is entered as Derbyshire, Newton.

Not sure about her surname - it is taken from her mother who is living with the family at the time of the 1871 census. Maybe something like Goshard, Gossard, Goddard, Gothard..?
