Saturday 28th May 2005. Business trip to Taipei
Saturday 16:40 One of Taipei main streets, nothing really interesting there... |
Saturday 16:40 Interesting name for a shop, apparently they are planning major openings in the UK and the States.. Nuff said. |
Saturday 16:54 View of Taipei 101, the tallest skyscraper in the world.I think that when the new version of the Twin Towers will be built it will slide in second place. |
Saturday 16:55 Still Taipei 101. |
Saturday 16:55 And again... |
Saturday 17:05 Interesting "changing of the guard" in the City Hall. They all seem construction workers, but they are quite skillful at throwing the gun in the air without killing too many people. |
Saturday 17:13 AH! A new picture of Taipei 101... |
Saturday 17:13 Mmmm don't know what I wanted to capture here... Maybe the cone? Anyone up for stealing it? |
Saturday 17:14 Don't tell me... Taipei 101? |
Saturday 17:42 Finally I am on the top floor of the skyscraper. The view is rather boring, Taipei looks much like Tokyo or any other huge city, there aren't a lot of interesting building to see... Still it's the tallest view on any city in the world... |
Saturday 17:43 Taipei again... |
Saturday 17:43 The green building is where the COMPUTEX fair takes place. They were setting up the whole place when I arrived as the show was starting the day after. |
Saturday 17:43 Some mountains... |
Saturday 17:48 Some buildings... |
Saturday 17:50 The "Beverly Hills" of Taipei. |
Saturday 17:52 And again some other buildings.. I had to make the 350 Taipei Dollars worth a way or another!! |
Saturday 17:53 This thing has been made by a famous artist apparently... |
Saturday 17:54 Taipei again... |
Saturday 17:56 The Damper. Apparently the building is so tall that winds would move the construction of an average of 6 meters. To avoid this nasty effect (with all its consequences) they created the biggest damper in the world, that actively counterbalance any movement. Taipei is also quite prone to earthquakes. |
Saturday 17:57 The damper again. |
Saturday 17:59 These are the iron "ropes" that keep the damper up, the diameter of each section is 15 centimeters. |
Saturday 19:01 Improper use of english in Asian countries, the sign says: "The Extent to which steets suitable for walks and public spaces are provided can be considered an effective index in determining the quality of urbanity in a city".. What more can I say? |
