Sunday 5th January 2002 (Index...)
10:10:10 The huge chunk of (admittedly very streamlined) metal which would somehow be carrying us half way around the world. |
10:10:21 A bit of a close-up on our plane. |
11:01:44 In the air now. I guess this is probably somewhere in Japan still, but it's pretty hard to tell. |
11:02:13 It was so difficult to get the colours right on my camera - perhaps the window was confusing it, I'm not sure. The view was a lot clearer and sharper in real life. |
11:02:59 Still though, I always like the blankets of cloud. |
11:05:42 Some part of the coastline of Japan, I'd guess. |
11:05:51 A bit of an island...? |
11:06:32 Hmmm... really not much use. |
11:07:26 Don't really know. |
11:13:07 Somehow having part of the window frame in the shot seems to improve it a bit. |
12:00:26 ...ssame sort of thing again. |
12:01:50 Having discovered AirlineMeals.net during my stay in Japan, I thought I'd take a picture of my meal on the off chance I might later on get around to writing a review of it. |
12:03:06 This first meal, lunch I guess, wasn't actually too bad, but there just wasn't enough of it. Also I got the impression mushrooms must have been on sale somehwere - both the main dish and the side dish were very mushroomy. Fine for me, as I happen to be very fond of mushrooms. Still though, a bit odd. |
12:05:08 A rather unattractive picture of me part way through eating my aforementioned meal. |
12:10:45 Chie's meal, which she could barely eat any of, bless her, because she was suffering from a stomach ache. |
12:11:06 Another picture of Chie's meal. |
12:11:17 I can't emphasize how much better the flight was, being able to travel with Chie, as opposed to travelling by myself. |
12:52:36 I was attempting to make the little fish shaped soy sauce container look like it was swimmming along in deep blue water. It didn't really work. |
13:18:22 Some of Siberia, I guess. |
13:19:12 Some more of Siberia. I'm always struck by how barren it looks. |
13:21:50 Particularly bleak here. Having spent the last two weeks in Japan, and before that having been in England, both places where it is actually quite difficult to get more than a few miles away from habitation, this is quite a stark contrast. |
13:23:11 The mountains of Siberia, looking very unearthly. |
13:39:51 Graham looks dreamily out of the window. |
13:41:09 Graham enjoying the view again. |
13:43:20 More Siberian landscapes. |
13:44:02 ...and again. |
17:11:15 KLM's snack, which has become something of a bone of contention for me. As if to rub salt into the wound, the non-vegetarian Pot Noodle type thing is described as "smag flavoured Kylling Chicken". Or perhaps Kylling is the Dutch word for chicken, and smag the word for flavour. Still, it's a rather unfortunate arrangement. |
17:44:07 Graham enjoying the flight's audio services. |
17:44:44 ...and again. |
17:45:06 Me looking a bit sinister, scribbling down a weblog article using my new PDA. |
17:45:45 The same again, but slightly less sinister. |
18:29:26 I left my camera's clock on Japanese time, so by this point we'd been flying almost eight hours. We must be nearing Europe by this point. |
20:48:29 The second main meal, lunch again I suppose, and this one was even more insubstantial than the first. |
20:49:08 Another attempt at taking a picture of my meal, as the first one was at a funny angle. |
22:05:34 This is, errr, somewhere or other in Europe. |
22:06:09 Perhaps somewhere around Denmark? |
22:06:34 Either way, this was not long before landing in Amsterdam, I think. Only a short connecting flight after that and we'd been back in England. |
