This is me, taken just after getting my haircut. I felt a bit awkward taking a picture inside the Barber's, so instead we have one a little down the road, in front of this unfinished bridge thing.

A close-up of me and my new haircut. Unfortunately due to the manner my hair was washed some water has got on my t-shirt, which makes it look a bit like I've been dribbling.

Just round the corner from where we were before, we popped into this discount supermarket. I think it is sort of a cash-and-carry, but ordinary members of the public seem to be allowed to buy stuff there too.

We celebrated my new haircut (?!) with a drink in Kirin's izakaya type place in Diamond City. Again this was just nearby where I got my hair cut.

Monday 01 August 16:43
I think there is an odd effect of perspective here - I don't remember this beer glass being quite that big...
|
Monday 01 August 16:43
...even more imposing! Perhaps I am now smaller as a result of having less hair as well.

Later on that evening, back at the flat. I was a little bored, so just out of interest asked Chie if there were any other beer companies in Japan apart from the usual Asahi, Kirin, Sapporo. So Chie mentioned you ought to be able to buy "Bekken Beer" in these parts, and off I went to a nearby booze shop to buy some. It was a bit pricey, but rather good.

Tuesday 02 August 19:43
Chie's Mum was out for the evening, and neither Chie nor I had the confidence to make a satisfactory meal for Chie's Dad... So instead we decided to eat out. Thus here we are in an izakaya not far from the family's flat - apparently called Kofuji.

Tuesday 02 August 19:44
Me and Chie, taken by self timer, which as a consequence means you can see some of the ceiling, which is nice.

Tuesday 02 August 19:47
Chie's Dad was particularly impressed by the tokkuri (sake jug) in this place, so I thought it merited a picture.

Tuesday 02 August 20:23
My vegetable tempura, which was nice but took a suspiciously long time to arrive - if I were a cynical man I might suggest they were trying to encourage us to drink more in the interim!

Tuesday 02 August 20:38
Outside Kafuji, which apparently is a Japanese sweets cafe in the daytime.

Wednesday 03 August 22:11
This is me, taken on the Shinkansen on the way back from Tokyo... As you may guess, I was rather bored!
|
Wednesday 03 August 22:11
It's a four hour journey each way. On the way out I was enjoying the novelty of it all (it's been a while since I've been on the shinkansen)... but on the way back, with no scenery to look it or anything, it was a bit of a drag.
|
Wednesday 03 August 22:12
Still bored then.

Wednesday 03 August 22:15
Luckily beer helped to pass the time!
|
Wednesday 03 August 22:18
In fact, quite a lot of beer helped to pass the time.
|
Wednesday 03 August 22:18
I think the colour is better in this picture. The lights inside the Shinkansen must be an unusual colour as when I use the "electric light" white balance setting it looks wrong.

Me, reflected in the window opposite. I probably thought this was really clever at the time (beer no doubt being an influence) but in retrospect it is a bit naff.

Wednesday 03 August 22:57
Not many people take this train all the way to Hiroshima it seems - by the last leg of the journey there were only about three people in my carriage.
