Friday. We'd arrived the previous evening, but more or less just put our tent up and then went to sleep in it. So these are the first pictures.
08:39:20 Having been to Reading a few times before, I was quite prepared for the portaloos. However, these funny green metal toilets were a whole new experience. |
08:50:48 Me in our new tent, purchased for a bargain 24 pounds. |
08:52:50 Chie drinking some water. |
09:26:39 Breakfast unusually consisted of leek and potato soup. |
10:37:26 We decided to just have a general wander around the site first of all. I think this is in the green fields bit, over the other side from where we were camped. |
10:39:04 What better way to spend a Friday morning than construct a kind of wicker rhinoceros? |
10:42:50 In fact lots of weird and wonderful constructions abounded. |
11:16:35 The Glastonbury organisers clearing wanting to cater for all tastes - here we are in the tipi only field. (Although in fairness I spotted at least one Yurt). |
11:21:00 Yes, it's an exhaust pipe tree. |
11:30:09 In the far, far corner of the site, near the lost stage, I thought I'd have breakfast number 2. |
12:09:46 It started to rain, predictably, so we ducked into the circus tent, where there was a bizarre act going on involving a fluffy shorts clad young lady molesting a number of male audience members. |
12:09:55 Still, it was fairly entertaining in its own unique way. |
12:17:26 Not too easy to see here, but this is one of those acts with big silk ropes. Very good. |
12:47:08 Worried that too many novelty acts would turn us insane (on our first day), we thought we'd step out and brave the rain. |
12:47:29 I think I was trying to give a general impression of "it's raining" here. |
12:51:12 Amazingly, there was a Hiroshima okonomiyaki stand at the festival. |
15:03:11 The back of some people's heads, in the crowd watching De La Soul. I think it had stopped raining by this point. |
16:13:31 After De La Soul, wellington boot wearing Simon forced us all to drink cider. -shudder- |
18:31:42 It suddenly occurred to me that Gav might be at the festival too. A quick phonecall later, and, lo and behold, I was right! |
18:32:02 Gav and Chie. |
19:00:39 The backs of some people's heads. |
19:13:51 Here we are watching Electric Six. |
19:14:02 I'm quite pleased with this shot of the stage here. |
19:15:25 I was trying to get a picture of the peace flag, that had been modified in an amusing fashion (the word off added). Can't really see it though. |
19:58:43 Back to our tent for a spot of dinner. |
20:04:59 We thought we'd go for a barbeque. Those are sweet potatoes wrapped in foil. Very tasty. |
20:16:16 It was a bit windy, on consequently the "Club Nailsea" gazebo we were camped near to had been blown over. |
20:16:26 Just some tents really. |
20:23:32 Me eating a (vegetarian) burger. |
20:23:38 Mmmmm lovely barbeque food. |
20:23:55 I might have been trying to get a picture of the wartime Japanese flag over there. |
20:24:07 Mainly burgers then. |
20:26:23 Barbeque and our tent. |
20:31:40 I think I've been told this is a really dangerous way to cook baked beans, because the metal releases toxins or something. It tastes bloody nice though. |
21:08:13 Chie enjoying barbequed sweet potatoes. |
22:49:48 Later on that evening, we sat a way back from the pyramid stage with a few beers to quietly watch REM. |
22:55:03 There you are, you can actually see our Michael on the screen over there. |
22:55:21 Ermm, not so obvious here. |
23:33:10 ...or here... |
23:34:07 ...or here indeed. |
23:38:50 You can just about make out the shape of the pyramid stage here. |
