Sunday 20th -Sunday 27th November 2005. Assorted pictures from daily life in Tokyo.

Sunday 20 November
10:36
In front of the Tokyo Opera house in Hatsudai, not too far from where we live. This was supposed to be a before and after picture (we had hair cuts shortly after) but we forgot the all important after photo.

Sunday 20 November
10:44
A christmas tree. I would have thought it was a bit on the early side, but Chie explained as Christmas finishes so abruptly on Bocing Day here (to make way for New Year celebrations) it tends to all get shunted forward a bit.

Sunday 20 November
10:44
This reminds me of a similar statue in Seattle.

Sunday 20 November
10:57
From the top of the big building next to the opera house there is a good view og Shinjuku - unfortunately you can't get that close to the windows!

Sunday 20 November
10:57
Another attempt with zoom. I think that is the Parc Hyatt.

Sunday 20 November
11:11
Chie and a christmas tree. I rather like this picture.

Sunday 20 November
11:17
More views of the big buildings in Shinjuku.

Sunday 20 November
15:15
Taken from the bathroom of a flat we were looking at!

Friday 25 November
20:15
Dinner in Rohlan, my favourite restaurant in Tokyo. Unusually busy today!

Friday 25 November
20:16
Here's me digging into some excellent enoki tempura in a sort of black bean sauce.

Friday 25 November
20:16
Mmmmm.... yummy!

Friday 25 November
20:50
Dessert - mochi dumplings covered in sesame seeds and filled with anko (red bean paste). Really, really delicious, just like everything else in Rohlan.

Saturday 26 November
11:03
Me on the little shopping street nearby our temporary accomodation in Hatagaya.

Saturday 26 November
18:59
Only a tiny minority of people in the world will believe this vegetarian chilli which came out of a packet from Britain was actually very, very nice.

Saturday 26 November
20:16
I had bought some CDs in the daytime, this was one of them - Thelonious Monk, For in One.

Sunday 27 November
15:01
This is in the park surround the Meiji Jingu Shrine. A lovely red tree.

Sunday 27 November
15:01
So lovely and red it was, that Chie clearly determined it merited more than one picture.

Sunday 27 November
15:02
Yes, love and red.

Sunday 27 November
15:02
Chie looking on at the throngs which had taken over the park.

Sunday 27 November
15:09
Although it may be a cause of some embarassment, I feel it necessary to admit my main reason for coming to this park was to try out my new GPS receiver!

Sunday 27 November
15:21
The lake in the park, bathed in late afternoon sun.

Sunday 27 November
15:33
This is the Harajuku entrance to Meiji Jingu. I wanted to take this picture as Lorenzo seems to have often taken pictures from the same spot (compare for example with this).

Sunday 27 November
15:34
I think Lorenzo is perhaps better than I at capturing this bizarre fruit basket; the strangely dressed denizens of Harajuku.

Sunday 27 November
15:58
A Christmas tree in Harajuku, taken through the window of (what I believe to be) the one and only Pizza Express in Japan.

Sunday 27 November
16:15
I love Pizza Express - I think their pizzas stand up well to the generally high standards in Japan. Also their vegetarian labelling is really good, and above all it reminds me of home!

Sunday 27 November
16:15
I think you can see just how pleased I am to be in this, if you'll allow me to misquote Rupert Brooke, "little corner of England".

Sunday 27 November
18:37
Later on that evening there was something of a cake related controversy. We'd bought a couple to take back home, and as often turns out to be the case, mine was much nicer than Chie's.

Sunday 27 November
18:37
This was Chie's cake - rather dry and disappointing. I have tried time and time again to impress upon her the importance of selecting on the basis of which looks the most unhealthy, but she never seems to get the message.

Sunday 27 November
18:38
Tea and cake in our little temporary appartment.

Sunday 27 November
19:03
The added bonus of buying cake from that particular shop was that they gave us a cube of dry ice to keep it cool. Being that we're both just two big kids, it was only a matter of time before we'd dropped the dry ice in a container full of water to see what happened. I for one was not disappointed with the result!

Sunday 27 November
19:03
Not sure how well this captures the sense of fun, but it was certainly a highlight of my weekend!
