Breaky Bottom
Saturday 28th July 2018
Had a very disappointing breakfast at my hotel, which I'd come to the conclusion was overally really quite naff. Went and had an alternative breakfast at a coffee shop in Lewes which was much better, then a bit of shopping before meeting friends from London at Lewes station, from where we all headed down to Southease together. From Southease station we walked to the Abergavenny Arms in Rodmell for lunch, before heading over to nearby Breaky Bottom vineyard for a heavenly few hours spent doing a tour and tasting, and chatting to the very charming and fascinating owner, Peter Hall. Somewhat reluctantly headed back to London again in the evening.

Went for a stroll around the ground of my hotel in the morning while waiting for breakfast service to start. Must have been a stormy night last night as one of the tables had blown over.

I put that table back up again.

The very bad macchiato I was served at breakfast.

08:28:05
A rather laughable plate of breakfast.

08:32:59
My room which was very small and very bland.

...with some extremely naff hotel art on the walls.

...and very tired and worn out surfaces around the sink. All in all I really can't recommend the Pelham House Hotel in Lewes!

After having an alternative breakfast at a coffee shop in Lewes, I had a bit of a wander round and did a bit of shopping. Here's Lewes Castle, near to which I applied a blister plaster.

10:45:34
Me in the emergency jacket I bought at Paul Clark in Lewes so I'd look a bit more presentable for the vineyard tour.

11:37:12
After meeting the gang at Lewes station and getting the train to Southease, here they are en route from there to the Abergavenny Arms in Rodmell.

13:46:30
Even the farmer's fields looked picturesque around here.

Grapes on the vine - I think these are chardonnay.

After a delightful couple of hours having a very leisurely tasting and chat with Peter it was regrettably time for us to leave, so I wanted to get a group photo before we headed off.
