Radlett to Shenley
Saturday 13th November 2021
I randomly got the train to Radlett (probably the nearest bit of countryside to home, only 23 minutes on the train) in the morning, for a short walk from there to Shenley and back again. Later on a quick glass of Fourrier's new Bourgogne Rouge on the heath. Then pizza and a movie with the girls in the evening.

10:29:28
The start of the footpath on the edge of Radlett.

10:29:35
Despite adjoining the town this was actually a very pleasant little wood.

10:31:01
Nice autumnal colours this morning.

10:31:39

10:32:47
A little stream.

10:33:23
More autumnal colours.

10:35:11
I made a video with a bit of commentary of a bit of my walk.

10:35:21

10:35:30
Found this swing quite tempting.

10:36:59
...so had a quick go on it.

10:39:02

10:39:47
I started to notice quite a lot of fungal interest in amongst the leaf litter.

10:39:51

10:40:04

10:40:40
I wondered if these slightly purplish tinged ones could possibly be blewitts?

10:40:47

10:41:31

10:41:45

10:42:32

10:43:25
Some other variety, no idea what.

10:44:08
Almost looked a bit like a large (winter?) chanterelle, but ptobably something else.

10:44:26

10:45:23

10:45:50

10:46:10
Long line, almost a ring of mushrooms here.

10:46:32
Took a video of the line / ring of mushrooms.

10:47:54

10:49:10
After the woods the path proceeded to open fields. This stretch was a bit boring my comparison.

10:50:41
Rosehips?

10:52:51
A tower in the distance.

10:52:57

10:53:16
Intriguing hollow trunk.

11:00:14
Approachin another bit of woodland.

11:02:46

11:03:27
Not quite as interesting as the first stretch of woods somehow, but still an improvement on walking through fields.

11:03:36

11:04:04
A sort of bowl depression in the middle of these woods.

11:05:19
Signposts.

11:05:24

11:05:34
A jumbo jet at fairly low altitude overhead.

11:08:40
Another wooded bit near Shenley.

11:09:56

11:10:57

11:15:31
This path follows the perimiter of Shenley and I realised I had actually walked along it before, back in April 2018.

11:15:39
Very different look to it compared to last time, as it was spring back then, and there was lots of blossom.

11:17:20
Still, the autumnal leaves today were nice in their own way.

11:21:48
Walking through a park on the edge of Shenley.

11:32:09
Couldn't resist another fry-up at the Orchard Cafe in Shenley. This was pretty good, although about twice as much food as I really needed.

11:56:25
I decided to just follow the road from Shenley back to Radlett, as it was the shortest route.

11:56:49
It wasn't too bad, there was a pavement all the way.

11:59:44
Radlett Lane - I wish I had taken a picture of the sign next to it as well, which said Shenley Road. So I suppose this was the half way point?

12:01:31
The enigmatically named footpath 55. Alas I didn't follow this.

12:02:54
Entering Radlett.

12:13:53
Was briefly amused having been at the Coral Room last night.

12:23:13
Bought some bagels in Radlett for the girls (Radlett seems to be famous for them) and got the train back to Kentish Town.

13:15:29
Once back at home I found my latest order of camping stuff had arrived.

13:17:34
Although it seems by accident I had ordered an actual meat vesion of one of the dehydrated meals. Oops.

13:22:52
My new gas stove, hard to tell from the photo but this is really compact.

13:25:27
There it is with the billy can on top. I thought this might be useful in situations where my other camping stove looks a bit too much like an open flame, and I might get told off.

13:29:34
Impressively the gas canisters fit inside my billy can, which would make the whole cooking apparatus pack down very small.

16:04:14
The girls spent most of the afternoon after Japanese school out shopping, and it seemed a waste to be stuck indoors, so towards the end of the afternoon I ventured to the heath. Looking very autumnal around the bandstand.

16:10:50
More autumnal scenes.

16:11:41
The hand tree.

16:14:10
I thought I'd try the new vintage of Fourrier's Bourgogne Rouge. This was really good actually - I already like it more than the 2017 - fresh, young, but lovely silky and floral on the palate.

16:14:15

16:14:21

16:15:07
Paired it with some Wotsits. Despite the ongoing crip crisis my local Sainsbury's seemed to be well stocked.

16:46:28
Starting to get dark as I left the heath.

17:56:36
We decided to have a lazy dinner, pizza while watching a movie. I really liked this.

17:56:40
Although I went for a bit of a strange choice for my pizza - sundried tomatoes and fresh chillies. Actually tasted quite nice at the time, but I regretted the chillies later on.
