Ouse Valley Way: Newhaven to Lewes
Saturday 16th November 2019
Today I decided to walk some of the Sussex Ouse Valley Way, from Newhaven to Lewes. It was a bit of a boring walk, to be honest, but nice to end in Lewes which was lovely as always.

On the train from Lewes to Newhaven, which almost exactly followed the route I'd be walking on the way back.

10:40:01
On arrival at Newhaven Town station. A bit bleak!

10:42:20
More bleakness, in fairness the weather wasn't helping.

10:44:36

10:45:35
A bit of maritime interest... but still pretty bleak.

10:51:34
Sign post for the Sussex Ouse Valley Way.

10:51:44
Zoomed in a bit.

10:53:59
A Christmas tree.

10:56:34
These seemed to be everywhere along the way.

10:59:18
I think this is some kind of waste processing plant, but it looked rather space age.

11:00:34

11:00:40
Along the Ouse Valley Way. It was pretty much consistently like this the whole time, which meant it got a bit boring after a while.

11:00:49

11:01:38
Um, trying to see something in the distance?

11:04:42
The train going by on the opposite bank.

11:09:54

11:13:23
Entering Piddinghoe.

11:14:19
The little pier at Piddinghoe.

11:15:56
The church in Piddinghoe.

11:16:05
Other bits of Piddinghoe.

11:16:21
Quite a pretty little village, but alas no pub any more!

11:17:43
I think this business is owned by one of Peter Hall's children (of Breaky Bottom fame).

11:19:21
Another sign post. At this point the path moved away from the river a bit, and went on a diversion up a hill.

11:22:53

11:24:07
Sheep. A bit of a view here I suppose.

11:24:09

11:24:12
Some pheasants in the field as well.

11:24:31

11:26:03
Tried to zoom in on the pheasants but ended up very grainy.

11:26:57

11:36:44
Back to the river again now.

11:44:03
....and it was a bit boring to be honest.

11:44:30
Another signpost.

11:55:31
The ridge over the Ouse at Southease. I wonder if that's where the name of Southease comes from - there's also a Northease.

12:08:24
Between Southease and Lewes now - I had considered doing this walk a couple of times before at the end of another walk, but had always ended up just getting the train at Southease station instead.

12:13:38
I think today's walk reassured me I hadn't been missing much.

12:16:05
It got quite muddy towards the end as well.

13:06:27
Lewes now visible.

13:11:56
Very muddy here!

13:15:19
Outskirts of Lewes.

13:23:07
Looking into Lewes towards the Harveys Brewery.

13:24:34
Here I parted from the Sussex Ouse Valley Way. Probably much nicer on a carefree summer afternoon. On a grey day in November I'm afraid I can't really recommend it.

13:26:13
The Harveys Brewery.

13:28:51
Popped into the Harveys Brewery shop which has an impressive local wine selection.

13:45:17
...plus of course no visit to Lewes is complete without paying my respects at the Lewes Arms.

13:50:54
Had lunch here, sat at the bar.

13:54:14
Me at the bar.

14:54:46
Some Albourne Estate for the train on the way home.

15:02:32
This was much nicer than the first time I had tried it!
