Erika was very keen to make a Japanese style "shortcake" for Chie's birthday, but after my hopeless attempt to bake Chie a cake with Erika last year (baking really isn't my thing) we collectively agreed it would be best for Chie to help this year instead. Not sure it was quite a short cake as Chie understands it, probably more like a Victoria sponge in the end, but whatever it was, it was very nice.

For dinner we ordered reassuringly expensive sushi from a place in Islington. I think Chie was reasonably happy with it.
