For future reference I took a picture of a couple of the pubs along the canal in Berkhamstead. This is the Boat.

....and this The Rising Sun. This to me looked the nicer of the two.

I found the shape of this arch pleasing to look at at the time, but one of those photos which looks a bit dull after the event.

Another canal bridge which seemed picturesque at the time, but doesn't look that inspiring in the resulting photo.

After leaving the canal towpath I followed the Hertfordshire Way up this pleasant country lane.

...and felt reassuringly far away from any other people.

At the top of the country lane the Hertfordshire Way veered off into a field filled with buttercups.

Nice little path beside a garden wall.

Looks like a pub sign but there was no pub in sight. This was on Bullbeggars Lane, a hamlet of sorts?

The Village Stores in Potten End.

The Plough in Potten End looked like it might be a reasonable pub, but I had decided I was going to press on to the vineyard at Frithseden for lunch.

A sort of elephant's graveyard of old farming machinery on the edge of Potten End.

Quite an ornate house in Frithsden.

Also fairly pleasant looking cottage in Frithsden.

Had a glass of their white wine (Frithsden Solaris) and a veggie burger.

...then took a glass of their rose (Rondo) round the vineyard.

Their vines seem to be doing better than mine.

After leaving Frithsden, I took the "permissive bridleway" heading back in the direction of Berkhamstead.

This took me through this pleasant wood...

....carpeted with bluebells.

It was however raining by this point so pleasant though it was I was getting wet.

Nearing Berkhamstead now, and the path went through these meadows filled with buttercups.

Back in Berkhamstead where I noted the Rising Sun would have Morris Dancing next month.

Also for future reference, there's a chip shop in Berkhamstead station.

Picked up my new suit once back in London, which was a sort of burgundy colour. Here it is with some burgundy for reference.
