Plumpton to Lewes
Saturday 23rd March 2019
I did a short walk in the South Downs today from Plumpton to Lewes. In the evening Erika made dinner for us!
London March 2019
Got the train to Plumpton where I started my walk.
Small detour to the village shop in Plumpton Green to buy supplies for my walk.
Had a bit of a diversion as the footpath I had planned to take over the railway was closed.
The old signal box and level crossing at Plumpton.
Nice rustic farmyard just past Plumpton Racecourse.
A couple of little wooden bridges.
I had recently learned that this V formation of trees on the hillside was planted in honour of Queen Victoria.
Crossing fields with the downs in the distance.
I thought these wild flowers were quite pretty.
Passing Plumpton College now - they run my vinegrowing course, although as all the sessions are held offsite this was my first time to see the college itself.
"No student socialising beyond this point."
Nice old barn as part of Plumpton College Estate.
The main building of the college.
Sheep on the lawn in front of the college - nice view of the downs!
The Half Moon pub where I stopped for lunch.
Took a picture of my new boots while I was waiting for the pub to open.
Inside the pub.
Outside the pub again as I was leaving after lunch.
The path leading to the downs.
Looks like an old toll house or something?
More sheep and lambs.
A fairy door in the base of this tree.
...and a fairy pond.
View as I climbed to the top of the ridge.
Shame the skies were so grey today!
Woods still looking quite wintery.
Near the top of Black Cap now.
Daffodils growing on top of Black Cap.
The trig point on top of Black Cap.
Selfie on Black Cap.
A beacon a bit along the ridge from Black Cap towards Lewes.
In this field there are NO SHEEP.
The Battle of Lewes was fought around here.
Into Lewes now.
Stopped off at the chocolate shop on the way through.
Chocolates on the train.
Back at home. Erika had decided to make soup for dinner, here's her ingredients list. I particularly like the way she spelled tomato puree.

Erika serving her soup. It was very nice!
