Saturday 17th February 2018
I went for a solo expedition out into the countryside surrounding London to visit the Green Dragon at Flaunden, which is listed in CAMRA's inventory of pub interiors of national importance.

I was impressed that the price of a first class ticket to Hemel Hempstead was only about £4 more than the standard class are.

09:50:51
First class on the Hemel Hempstead Express.

09:52:25

10:19:28
Welcome to Hemel Hempstead!

10:28:08
Only a few minutes from Hemel Hempstead station and it already started to feel like the countryside.

10:31:35
Next signs on the route.

10:39:00
Open fields.

10:43:38
A nice house I passed.

10:54:55
A bit muddy here! Glad I didn't wear brogues for a change.

10:59:02

11:02:04
Some little wild flowers.

11:04:32
More open fields.

11:08:44
To be honest the fields started to get a bit boring after a while.

11:15:53

11:20:08

11:21:19
Horses.

11:34:14
The signpost had fallen down here leaving me a little unsure whether I was going the right way.

11:34:44
Another muddy field to cross.

11:46:00
Finally arriving in Flaunden!

12:02:55
More shots of the tap room.

12:06:28

12:06:44

12:07:30
Alas no food was being served today and I was a bit hungry, so I decided I should just have a quick pint then press on to another pub for lunch.

12:41:34
Th‎is sign seemed wonderfully unnecessary to me.

12:41:40

12:42:46
There's actually a little observatory over there.

12:56:33
Nice wooded bit here.

12:59:43
This made for a very pleasant change from the open fields.

12:59:58
Quite a lot of horse poo to avoid though.

13:03:02
Back to open fields again.

13:04:36

13:06:53
The river Chess.

13:14:00
Some nice houses along here.

13:18:47
Last field to cross?

13:23:08
This path led directly to the back of the Red Lion.

13:24:44
The Red Lion, where I had lunch.

13:25:01
The interior wasn't much to write home about alas.

13:33:45
...but the little courtyard by the side was pleasant enough.

13:40:57
My lunch. Pleasant enough.

13:54:48
On the final leg of my walk to Chorleywood now to get the train back to London.
