More rain today. Very welcome it was too.

It looked as if autumn was starting already. Apparently this is a phenomenon which can happen after a heatwave, followed by rain or cooler weather, which seems to confuse the trees into thinking the seasons are changing.

I was hoping for an atmospheric and damp sort of evening on the heath - and more to the point without the usual crowds I'd got use to on Parliament Hill of late - but as it turned out the skies were clearing by this evening.

I think the threat of rain had successfully put the crowds off though, and at least at this point of the evening it was fairly quiet atop Parliament Hill.

This evening's wine, a Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru "Lavaux St Jacques" from Domain Tortochot. Quite a complex wine, with spice, tobacco, dense berry character, slightly leathery, and a bizarre note of sweetcorn (never found that before)... Eventually the sweetcorn gave way to mushroom, so I assume this was some kind of Brettanomyces influence.
