Sunday 10th March 2013
First day of our two day trip to the famous Dogo Onsen and Matsushima on Shikoku, the smallest of the four main islands of Japan.
Japan March 2013
Erika in her Japanese car seat.
My continuing obsession with can coffee, much to the bemusement of almost everyone.
The Hiroshima tram, as Hiroshima ferry port.
In Hiroshima ferry port.
We spotted Ginga again in the port.
Galaxy is the English name for Ginga.
Me, Chie, Erika with Ginga in the background.
Ginga in profile.
On the ferry now, Ginga still in view.
Where we sat on the ferry.
Some pictures taken from the ferry. The weather wasn't all that nice today, so the pictures of the ferry trip are a bit uninspiring.
Apparently this used to be some kind of theme park.
That boat looks faster than the one we were on.
I found this industrial complex oddly interesting.
We went under that bridge (this is taken through a window at the front of the ship which explains the blue-ishness).
Now at our hotel, the Dogo Prince.
The Dogo Onsen clock.
It moves rather impressively on the hour.
The main dogo onsen building.
Do not run by a bicycle.
In our hotel / ryokan room here.
Erika receiving a half birthday present from Auntie Yuka.
Erika took this picture!
"Taruto" the local sweet, and green tea.
Botchan dencha manju.
Self timer shot, not very well composed.
The sign saying who is staying on this floor - on the left it says Moriwaki.
The red car was sort of the symbol of our hotel.
A red and pink hotel bus which ferried us to and from the Dogo onsen centre.
On the bus.
Dogo Onsen clock again.
I went for a walk in the park with Erika while the girls went to the onsen.
After meeting up with the girls again outside Dogo Onsen.
Some local characters.
Waiting for the bus back to the hotel.
Erika in our hotel room, it looks a bit like she has a desk.
We hired one of the family bath rooms at our hotel for a short while.
Erika's first dip in an onsen! It was a bit hot for her to be fully in the water so we just dangled her toes a bit.
On the way into dinner.
Chie's Mum was cajoled into wearing this red outfit, apparently traditional when you turn 60.
Erika trying on the hat.
Part of my dinner.
This was a slab of salt!
An intricately carved piece of carrot.
Vegetables cooking on the salt slab.
Erika heading over to the other side of the room.
Erika on ogeechan's shoulders.
