London to Florence
Friday 18th October 2019
Eurostar from London to Paris, TGV from Paris to Turin, then Frecciarossa from Turin to Florence.
Italy October 2019
Me looking slightly moronic as I boarded the Eurostar to Paris at the outset of my trip.
On the Eurostar, reading about some of Europe's finest restaurants.
A very quick and functional photo in Gare du Nord as I never like to dwell too long there.
Now outside Gare de Lyon station.
...and after some delay, now on the TGV from Paris to Turin.
After a suitable amount of time chilling with my improvised portable wine chilling setup (an old Brita water filter jug) I decided it was time to open one of the bottles of ESW I'd brought with me. One of Dermot Sugrue's lesser known works - East meon Berrygarden.
Was quite pleased when the seat facing me became empty.
A half bottle of Nyetimber I had brought along for backup, as it was an especially long journey.
Nyetimber while passing through the Alps.
Now on the Frecciarossa - only just made the connection at Turin!
The espresso machine on the Frecciarossa 1000.
A selfie in the executive bathroom.
The shoe polisher. All the essentials you'd expect on a high speed train really.
The business meeting room.
The menu for dinner.
The gnocchi I had for dinner. Looks very plain but it was quite tasty.
Now in Florence and quite amazed to have made it all this way - over 1000km by rail in one day!
Now at Lorenzo's sister's bar in Florence for a night cap.
Lorenzo having a cocktail.
Lorenzo and his sister Alice.
