John's Pictures

13:39:23
Today we'd decided we wanted to go to the waterfalls leading to the Laig Gorge on the other side of the island from the Glebe. It was kind of hard to find!

13:45:27
Aha! The first waterfall.

13:45:54
Dad standing atop the waterfall.

13:47:43
Yep, definitely a waterfall.

13:48:44
Me and the waterfall.

13:50:53
I'd seen this plant - apparently called Horse's tail - about 8 years ago, and had never seen it since, so I was really pleased to find it growing near the waterfall.

13:51:45
Dad taking a picture of a wild orchid.

13:53:46
A picture of the orchid Dad was photographing, with a damsel fly (?) in the background.

13:59:45
Look! A waterfall!

14:01:35
Water tumbling over the rocks in the Laig Gorge.

14:01:59
Dad making his way down into the gorge.

14:07:01
Nice view of a smaller waterfall in the gorge.

14:10:01
The gorge is apparently famous for its peculiar geological formation.

14:12:39
Dad thinking he might not go any further down the gorge - it was getting a bit steep!

14:14:36
Very slippy rocks!

14:16:49
Just before Dad went off the other way.

14:19:55
More rocks and water, mainly.

14:22:14
Very fast water chute here. Was tempted to slide down it!

14:27:31
The gorge was starting to open out a little bit by this point.

14:32:44
I think that must be Rum in the distance.

14:33:16
More of the interesting geology surrounding the gorge.

14:35:24
Me in the way out of the gorge.

14:36:46
Last view of the gorge.

14:38:10
View to the ridge above Cleadale.

21:02:20
In the evening me and Dad went for a walk over to Kildonnan bay.

21:09:43
The rocks stretching out into the sea.

21:11:01
A couple of the houses around Kildonnan.

21:11:18
Here's me again.

21:20:55
Back towards the western highlands on the mainland.

21:25:11
Standing on a beach with the Sgurr looming on the skyline.

21:25:44
Another view of the mainland.

21:28:20
Dad standing in amongst the ancient burial mounds.

21:32:40
Across Kildonnan bay.

21:32:47
The Sgurr silhouetted against the evening sky.

21:33:13
Some hints of pinks and reds in the sky above the little extra island on the side of Eigg - Castle island?

21:44:13
A sudden rather incredible burst of colour in the evening sky.

21:44:19
The Sgurr was to the left of the sunset from where we were standing, so is only touched by the vaguest suggestion of pink rays.

21:45:53
Dad admiring the sunset.

21:46:29
Me looking a bit silly, but still appreciating the colours in the sky.

21:47:43
Maybe the best picture of the sunset.

21:50:34
As quickly as it appeared, the sunset was beginning to fade again.

21:50:53
Me being blown about by the wind, with the sunset behind.

21:52:49
Really interesting effect on the clouds here.

21:57:16
Last view of Kildonnan before heading back to the Glebe.
